Shopify category attributes for Pens

In Shopify's standard product taxonomy, Pens sits at Office Supplies > Office Instruments > Writing & Drawing Instruments > Pens & Pencils > Pens. Once a product has this category, Shopify shows the attributes below in the product editor. Filled attributes are structured facts — AI shopping assistants and Shopify's own search and filters can use them to match a shopper's question without guessing from your text.

The 4 attributes for Pens

• Ink color — Identifies the color of ink, typically for office supplies; e.g. black, silver

• Ink pattern — Identifies the visual theme of pens or stamps, e.g. geometric, Christmas
  Examples: Abstract, Animal, Art, Bead & reel, Birds, Brick, Bull's eye, Camouflage (51 values in total)
• Lumber/Wood type — Identifies the specific type of wood or lumber used in a product, like oak or pine
  Examples: Ash wood, Balsa wood, Bamboo, Basswood, Birch wood, Cedar wood, Cherry wood, Cork (24 values in total)
• Wood finish — Describes the finishing treatment or construction method applied to wood products (e.g., solid wood, veneered, engineered, oiled, lacquered, painted)
  Examples: Engineered (plywood/MDF), Lacquered/varnished, Oiled, Painted, Solid wood, Untreated/natural, Veneered, Other

More specific categories

Shopify recommends the most specific category that fits. Under Pens you can choose: Ballpoint Pens, Felt Tips, Fountain Pens, Gel Pens, Rollerball Pens. A more specific category can come with more attributes.

How to fill them

1. Open the product in Shopify admin → Category → choose Pens (or a more specific one).
2. The category's attributes appear below it. Pick values that are true for the product — for example, the colors you actually sell.
3. Only fill what you know. An empty attribute is better than a wrong one.

Many attributes are already in your store in another form: your variant options ("Color: Black, Olive") or words in your title and description ("100% cotton"). Listproof reads those and suggests the matching attribute values for you to approve — it never fills an attribute that isn't supported by your own product details.
